PROJECT 2
A New Look for a
Mature Garden
[STORY]
A large extension to the house and new Alitex greenhouse had changed its relationship with the garden. The challenge was to bring harmony to the space by rooting the new buildings into the garden and creating views from within. The client is an experienced gardener and wanted to extend and enrich the existing mature planting.
[FEATURES]
A new summer house creates a focal point as viewed from the living room. A new gravel path with borders leads to the wooded part of the garden. A second-hand stone patio links the existing terrace to new french windows and the new paved utility area and greenhouse. The whole is enlivened with accent lighting of the summer house, trees and spiral clipped box. There is low level lighting to the patio.
[PLANTING]
The clearing of overgrown shrubs revealed the shape of a mature Magnolia x soulangeana and gave an opportunity for a woodland planting area with different varieties of magnolias and hydrangeas. There is a new rose border with grasses and lillies and two linear borders with summer flowering perennials mixed with herbs.
