PROJECT 4
A Productive Family Garden
[STORY]
A great depth of clay meant that the lawn was waterlogged for much of the year. The clients wanted to use every bit of their garden, particularly to make it attractive to children by maximising play space, providing water, paths to explore, a mini beast meadow and fruit to pick.
[FEATURES]
An extensive drainage system was installed which makes the lawn useable in most seasons. There is a small productive area with fruit and vegetables. Play space, a child’s border, a mini wildflower meadow and bubble fountain and two seating areas bring enjoyment for children and adults alike.
[PLANTING]
A strip of tall grasses replaced a pergola to make a softly waving veil between the patio and the lawn. Purple and grey foliage plants compliment the existing large eucalyptus. Apples and berries provide easy pickings for small fingers.
