PROJECT 5
A Complete Make-Over

[STORY]
With family grown and retirement on the horizon the clients wanted to completely renew their garden, to give it structure, to extend the season of interest and to allow more scope for growing fruit and vegetables.

[FEATURES]
A gently curving rope-linked pergola walk borders the lawn and leads from the sunny patio to the greenhouse and raised beds for vegetables. The french windows from the house open on to a smaller patio with water feature.

[PLANTING]
A line of box clipped into cones lead to the front door and a bed planted with english roses and sweet box. The pergola will be covered with clematis and roses, together with wisteria and ceanothus. Sambucus ‘Black Lace’ and Black Beauty’, Cotinus coggygria “Royal Purple’ and purple hazel give a rich background colour, eucryphia ‘Penwith’ carries the flowering season into the autumn. Winter colour is provided by skimmia dogwoods and witch hazels. Fruit includes a fig, blackberries, currants and raspberries.
